Orlando Breast Augmentation Procedures: The Basics You Need to Know

Women who have problems with their self-image may be tempted to instantly turn to a plastic surgeon who offers breast augmentation in Orlando, FL. However, undergoing breast augmentation is a decision that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Before you make your decision definite, you should know more about the process itself.

Are you qualified?

Breast augmentation surgery is a medical procedure like any other. In essence, it is the implantation of saline or silicone bags behind your existing breast tissue to enhance your chest’s size and appearance. Since it’s basically a medical procedure, you’d want to be in good health when you undergo it.

Plastic surgeons often use three criteria to check if you’re eligible for breast implants: 1) You should have good overall health and no medical issues; 2) You should be within 30 pounds of your optimal weight; and 3) You should have realistic expectations of the process. So, you can’t expect to have a supermodel body after breast augmentation if your original form was nowhere near it.

If you meet these requirements and are still keen on going through the procedure, you can go ahead and make the arrangements with your plastic surgeon.

What should you do to prepare for it?

Experienced Orlando plastic surgeons like Dr. Richard Arabitg can help you prepare for the surgery. The doctor will let you choose between a saline and a silicone implant, outlining their advantages and disadvantages. He will then describe the process and the surgical techniques he can use, including where the incision would be made and where the implant would be located. The location of the incision and implant will affect the final shape of your breasts, so it’s important to discuss it with the doctor.

What happens during the procedure?

On the day itself, the operation will be done either in the surgeon’s office or in a hospital. After putting you under general anesthesia, the surgeon will make an incision either under your breasts, under your arms, or around your nipples. The implant will be inserted in your pectoral muscles or above them. When that is done, the surgeon will close the incision with sutures or surgical tape. When you wake up, you’ll have an improved pair of breasts.

What should you do after the operation?

Just like in any surgery, you need time to recover. Initially, your breasts will be bandaged and have drainage tubes. To recover properly, you must wear a surgical bra for a few weeks and take it easy. If you feel any pain, over-the-counter painkillers should help. If the pain persists, let your surgeon check on you.

All Consultations are Done By Dr. Arabitg Himself!

Dr Richard Arabitg - Friday, May 30, 2014

Before a procedure, Dr. Arabitg will walk patients through everything they need to know about the type of breast implants that will be used, the pros and cons of breast augmentation surgery, and the best size/shape options for each patient’s body and lifestyle. He will discuss which type of incisions and anesthesia are most appropriate, and answer any questions. During consultations, it is necessary to discuss a patient’s body type, desired cup size, and desired result. Online consultations are free, and in-office consultations cost just $75.  The utmost importance is placed on understanding and addressing patient requests and concerns. Questions that are customarily answered include procedure duration, recovery time, side effects, and risks. Typically, a breast augmentation takes approximately one to two hours to complete, but may vary on a case-by-case basis. The recovery period will usually consist of seven to twelve days, however, it is vital for patients to avoid any strenuous activity for a few weeks after. A proper recovery period is crucial for complete healing. Although all surgical procedures have risk factors, such as infection or scars, the common side effects of breast augmentations are temporary; these usually include brief discomfort, soreness, bruising, swelling, and sensitivity. After the surgery, a position-supporting bra is worn initially, and then the sutures are removed after roughly 7-12 days. Any scarring as a result of the surgery will fade over time.

There Has Been a 37% Increase in Breast Augmentations in the Last 10 Years

Dr Richard Arabitg - Wednesday, May 28, 2014

Breast augmentation is an Orlando cosmetic surgery involving enlargement and shaping of the breasts, through insertion of saline solution or silicone gel implants. At Plastic Surgery Central Florida, we know that women may decide to undergo a breast augmentation procedure for many reasons, but the result is always a remarkable improvement in self-confidence and self-esteem. Studies indicate that after an augmentation, women report enhancements in physical health, appearance, social life, and sexual function. Additionally, they reported lasting happiness with their breast implants. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast augmentation is the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery today. With over 290,000 women receiving implants per year, there has been a 37% increase in the last ten years.

The most frequent grounds for pursuing augmentation are for aesthetic reasons, reconstruction, or revision of previous cosmetic surgeries. When breast augmentations are pursued for reconstructive purposes, they are highly effective for correcting abnormalities, as a result of trauma, disease, or genetics. Implants can even improve one’s appearance after injuries, and surgeries such as mastectomies. When pursued for aesthetic or revision purposes, breast augmentations can be the best way to improve self-confidence and satisfaction with one’s body. After an unsatisfactory cosmetic or reconstructive procedure, breast augmentation can fix any previously unsatisfactory results. Aesthetically, breast augmentation results in dramatically improved feelings of satisfaction with one’s appearance and body.
